Chapter 7

KASHISH

"Didn't I tell you not to bother me, officer?" His yelled voice made me pause my steps. He was standing alone, not giving a damn about fucking world. "Excuse me, Major," I said, and he turned his gaze toward me.

Not again! All I wanted was to avoid him, but there he was, standing right in front of me. "You ass..." I stopped midway when he looked at me. "Go on, complete your admiring words for me," he said in a husky tone. This guy knew his presence frustrated me, yet he still surprised me every time.

"Are you okay?" he asked, stuffing his hands into his combat pants. I had faced many rude professors and strict invigilators, but I must say this creature was damn scary. He must be 6 feet or might be more than 6 feet, as I didn't have an exact measurement. "Yeah, I'm okay!!"

"Why have you brought me here, Major?" I wrapped my arms around my chest. "We were supposed to go to the training camp." He was still staring at me with his yellow eyes. It looked like I had tiger's eyes on me. "Why, do we look like kidnappers in army uniforms?" He grunted. "Didn't your college authorities inform you that this is a camp?"

I looked at the rock behind him. "Eyes on me. I hate it when someone ignores my eyes." My eyes automatically met his, and goosebumps popped up all over my body. I'd blame the cold for that. "Why are you talking in such a rude tone?" I confronted him. "This is my usual tone." He looked at me with annoyance.

You rascal!! I was not his subordinate, so why the hell was he dominating me? "Stop bothering me and go back to your camps." He again used his commanding tone. Is he just checking my patience? "Are we going to spend our next month here with you guys?" I looked at the camps where we were supposed to stay.

"Sorry, we don't have fancy hotels for you," I grimaced. "Next point: Don't ever raise your voice at me again." I didn't respond. He walked toward me until he stood in front of me.

I tilted my chin up to look at him. His height was so fucking long. "Perhaps you aren't aware of the orientation program," he leaned forward, matching my height. "May I?"

Orientation program is the training session where the cadets work with soldiers to absorb knowledge about the battlefield. Where the cadets undergo basic military training, like drills, marching, physical training, and weapon training as well.

"You see, I don't want to talk to you," I said after having a long conversation with him. "Now tell me, where do I get food? I'm hungry." I asked, equally staring into his eyes.

I hadn't eaten anything since lunch, and now I felt like I might die any moment if I didn't fill the big hole in my stomach. "I'm waiting," I added when he didn't answer. He pointed straight in his right-hand direction. "Ask him!" with that he walked out.

"Wait—" He stopped midway. I walked toward him until he was two steps away from me. "What?" He turned around. I extended my hand to him. "Give me my phone." He first looked at my hand, then at me. "I know you have it. Come on, give it to me— or else," I warned him.

He smirked. "Or else—" he leaned forward until he was two fingers away from me. My pulse doubled. "Are you trying to threaten me?" He asked, dipping his eyes over my lips. My hair scattered across his face with the force of the wind, and he closed his eyes.

"If you have thoughts of stealing my phone, I swear I will ruin your dashing face with my fucking nails." He smirked again at my warning.

He removed my hair from his face and opened his eyes. "Nice try, Miss Dandekar—but you will never win against a beast." He stood straight, taking back his commanding presence.

He dragged my phone out of his pocket. "Here's your phone." I snatched my phone from his hand. "Don't worry, your private messages are safe with me." He winked and walked out.

"W-what?! Hey, you, stop!" I yelled at him, but he didn't pause his steps. I curled my lips because I was so angry at him. Did he read my messages? Bloody ass-hole.

"Go to hell, I hate you," I cursed at him.

"How rude and arrogant officer he was", I walked straight for 5 minutes while cursing him. "I have never seen a dashing officer like him, and an arrogant officer as well", I looked at the officer. He must be the right person with whom I need to talk. He is helping his fellow soldier to make food.

"Excuse me, sir!" He was sitting in the chair and looked at me. "Yes?"

"What are you doing here? Are you feeling alright?" he asked, concerned. He sounded more polite than Ranvijay.

"Much better..." I sat opposite him. "Actually, that officer asked me to get help from you." He followed my gaze to Ranvijay. "Sure!"

"Sir, we need to stay here along with you guys for the orientation programme." I said, looking around the camps. "I mean, inside the camps. weather here is so cold." He smiled warmly at my words. "It wouldn't be as hard as it looks like." He said, chopping onions.

I hummed in response.

"So, which year are you studying?" he looked at me. "I completed the 3rd year and entered the 4th year." He smiled, nodding at my every word. "Great! So, are you preparing to become a resident doctor, or do you want to join the army?"

My bottom lip disappeared beneath my teeth. "I want to join the army."

"Wow, Kashish. I'm impressed." He passed the chopped onions to the officer and took the potatoes to chop. He wasn't ordering his fellow soldiers around like a senior; instead, he was helping them. He was a true gentleman.

"So, you shouldn't be worried about where you have to stay. All you should know is how you can fulfill your responsibilities," he said softly. He seemed so calm, not like Ranvijay.

"You are right, sir. How politely you explained all this to me," I said, just overwhelmed by his demeanor. "Isn't the army going to have a beautiful surgeon?" I smiled at his words. He was complimenting me. "Really! Thank you, sir."

"Your eye colour is rare", he said. He leaned forward to me, "And that's enhanced your beauty more", he chuckled and I let out a big laugh. He is a darling, I must say. "If you don't mind sir, can I ask your name?" I said. "I'm Major Arjun Rathore"

"Are you married?" I asked curiously, and he nodded. "In fact, I have a lovely daughter," he exclaimed with joy. "Aww! So sweet," I curled my lips into a warm smile. "Btw, what have you cooked for dinner? I'm hungry, sir."

"Khichdi," Arjun replied. The word khichdi instantly dropped my bright smile. "What!"

"All the students have been injured, and Dr. Pranav instructed us to provide healthy food for all of you." Arjun washed his hands and wiped them with towel. I can understood doctor's concern, but I hated khichdi. But I nodded.

"You are so polite, sir. Then why is he so rude and arrogant?" I said, pointing toward Ranvijay. Arjun followed the direction of my hand. "Don't you think he's so rigid and khadoos as well? I mean, he literally scolded me." I grimaced, but Arjun's expression was as if he hadn't heard anything new.

Ranvijay was sitting far away from me. But he was gazing at me without blinking his eyes. First time a man gazes forced me to dropped my eyes in shyness.

"Ranvijay is strict and a bit aggressive officer, but he has a good heart. He doesn't talk to anyone much, that's why everyone finds him arrogant." Arjun explained his behavior, while my eyes automatically drifted back to Ranvijay. I wondered how Arjun knew Ranvijay so well.

"Really? He's a good-hearted man?" I placed my face on my hand, my elbow resting on the table. "Ah? well, that's hard to believe," I whispered under my breath. The irony was—Ranvijay was still speaking angrily to some officers.

"You don't know that Ranvijay is a brilliant officer in our battalion. His strict and rude demeanor is enough to make enemies gulp in fear. I'm proud to be his friend." Ah? Best buddies. Arjun's eyes were filled with so much pride for him.

He might be the best officer, for sure, as I have never experienced him before. But from my perspective, he should be polite to civilians as well.

It'd been one week since we arrived in Manikaran. At night, the weather was as cold as ice. It was 1:30 in the morning, and I'd somehow hoaxed the soldiers to make a call. I was talking to Vikrant. "I'll call you later, bye." I hung up the call.

I turned around, my eyes still glued to Instagram. I flinched as someone stood behind me. "Ahh!!" I threw my phone in the air, screaming, and was about to fall to the ground when a hand came from nowhere and grabbed my waist.

"My eyes were closed. 'Somebody ple—' I tried to raise my voice, but someone put his palm over my mouth. His, because the palm was so hard. "Huhh!" His grip tightened on my waist. "Could you please stop screaming?" I had heard this cold tone before. "Shhh"

I slowly opened my eyes, only to find myself hanging in his arms. An angry vein popped up on my temple. He was none other than Major Ranvijay. Our eyes locked for a few seconds, and on the other hand, his fingers kept rustling my waist. My breath got stuck in my throat when his fingers brushed my skin.

"Why are you screaming? It's me," Ranvijay growled. I just hated his commanding tone. "If you stand behind me like this, of course, I will get scared," I raised my tone. "Didn't I warn you that you shouldn't raise your voice in front of me?" His grip on my waist tightened with each word.

"And, btw, aren't you feeling scared, standing alone outside the camp at this hour?" He scolded me again. This is hypocrisy. I mean—he could use any type of tone when talking to me, even though his voice always had aggression, not to mention arrogance as well.

"Why are you roaming around here as if it is the terrace of your house?" I think Arjun was wrong about him. How could a person like Ranvijay have a good heart when his tongue doesn't know how to speak polite?

"Then what?" I asked, giving him a dead glare. "I'm here to call somebody, not just wandering around unnecessarily." I hated him, but still, I was in his embrace. Thanks to him, I wasn't feeling cold.

"Shut up...!!" Ranvijay took his hand off my waist. I picked up my phone, which had shattered on the ground. "Are you okay, sweetie?" I caressed my phone.

"I heard your important conversations," he said dryly, tugging his hand into his pocket. Anger boiled up inside me.

"You.....Ahhh chi....!!" I sneezed. "Are you eavesdropping on my conversations?" I sneezed again. Bloody hell, I have caught a cold. I covered my runny nose with both hands. "Ahhh...chi", I was sneezing continuously. "Could you stop sneezing?" he said. "Nope!!"

What kind of man is he! I'm suffering from a cold, but this insane guy is still yelling at me. My eyes widened in shock. What is he up to? Ranvijay was unbuttoning his army jacket. I swallowed hard, thinking he was going to do something fishy.

"Wear it." He threw his jacket at me. He was harsh and mannerless. "You were so focused on your important phone call," I glanced at him as I put on his jacket. "but you didn't even think to wear something warm. The weather in Manikaran is cold." He yelled, and I closed my eyes, trying to ignore his annoying voice.

"Eyes on me!" He raised his voice. I immediately opened my eyes. "You didn't answer me. What are you doing here at this hour?" He paused, his angry glares still fixed on me. "I don't have network inside the camp, that's why I came out to make a call," I replied, softly. "And what's the big deal if I came out at this hour?"

"I'm sure you only know how to use your tongue, but not your mind." I fist the corner of his jacket in anger. Now he was crossing his limits.

"It's been a week, and don't you know that according to the camping rules, you can't be outside after 10?" he added. His words were no less than venom to me, but I didn't utter a single word, which only made me more pissed.

"I'm talking to my boyfriend." His jaw tightened in anger. I could see angry veins popping up on his forehead and hands as well, and his eyes were filled with fury. I didn't know what made him angry — the fact that I have a boyfriend or that I violated the camping rules.

"Why are you telling me that you have a boyfriend?" he rasped. "So that you understand that I'm not wasting my time here." I snapped back. He thinks he can scare me. No. Never.

"Go to your camp right now," he said before turning his eyes to the side trees. Didn't he feel cold? I hugged myself tighter when a cold wind touched my skin.

"This is your first mistake. If you repeat it, I will punish you." I looked at him. "Did you get that?" I began to walk toward my camp. "Bloody ass-hole, arrogant, khadoos," I mimicked—of course, behind his back because he was smoking.

"Did you just say something?" Ranvijay asked, and I bit my tongue. "Nope!" I started unbuttoning his jacket. "Sir, your jacket." Ranvijay looked over his shoulder. "Forget it." he lit up his cigarette. I couldn't believe my eyes. Did he just behave like a gentleman?

A warm smile tugged at the corner of my lips and faded when he spoke. "Give it to me tomorrow after washing." I widened my eyes in frustration. "Now go." Ranvijay took two steps forward so that the cigarette smoke wouldn't bother me. "But... but how can I wash it here?" I cried.

"Don't bother yourself right now, go and sleep now, ask tomorrow....!!", he turned his neck. "Not to me, as the right person is Officer Neeraj, go", his words made me sighed in annoyance. I titled him right. He is an asshole.

I like challenges in my life, but waking up early in the morning in the mountains was quite difficult. "Wake up, guys, if you don't want to be punished with 50 rounds of the camp." His voice echoed in my ears again. I didn't want to listen to him, but I already had many punishments in my bucket, and I couldn't afford one more addition.

I slid down from my blanket and got out of bed. I walked outside the camp after tapping the soldier's shoulder and giving him a thumbs-up. He will soon get a promotion.

"This is heaven-I mean, where else do we get to see hot soldiers who have six-pack abs?" Amrita said while wiping her face.

"You're right, I have never seen such hotties in my entire life," Nisha chuckled. "My favorite one is Major Ranvijay," she said, and both giggled. "I have never seen such a composed officer in my life, and did you hear his husky voice? He sounds like a roaring man," Amrita added. I was sitting just behind them, listening to them talk about the officer I hated the most.

"That officer is arrogant and rude, so consider his nature instead of his physical appearance, which is no less than a disaster," I growled, and their heads turned in unison toward me. "Then what? Every person should carry a rude attitude so that when he speaks, everyone becomes silent. I consider him badass." They laughed again.

They are both mad, for sure. But one thing is right about him, he is hot and dashing as well, I can't deny that. I rolled my eyes to the ground, where he was shirtless doing pushups while holding 50kg on his back. He has irresistible charisma.

"Bitch, what's wrong with you?" Nisha's croaky voice broke my unsettled thoughts. "Why are you wearing an oversized jacket?" I looked at myself. Fuck! Did I forget to change it?

Nisha took five steps toward me. "Hey, it has an army logo, but why did they give you an oversized jacket? You are just 5'3", and look at the jacket—it looks like it's from a 6 feet man." I swallowed hard.

"Yeah, because it belonged to a 6-foot man." Nisha looked at me. "It's Major Ranvijay's jacket." Their mouths fell open in shock. "Bitch, how did you get this?" Amrita screamed. They looked like I had stolen this jacket from Ranvijay.

"I was out in the cold last night, and he gave it to me so that I wouldn't fall sick," I said. "He is so sweet and caring as well." Nisha had an 'Aww' expression for him.

"I wish, I was there instead of you", Amrita chuckled. I didn't understand that they both hadn't encountered him yet, but they were still attracted to him.

"You have so much delusion about him," I said, wiping off their brightest smile. "He is not that sweet and caring—he is rude and arrogant," I said angrily. I couldn't forget how rudely Ranvijay talked to me last night.

"Well, I don't want to spoil my whole day discussing Major Ranvijay Karmarkar." It made me pissed off.

It had been 10 days, and I hadn't had a gossip session with Riya. I must say, Manikaran needed to plant power boosters. I walked toward the training ground, where some soldiers were having their target practice.

"Finally, I got the network!" I exclaimed in joy. I stopped as I almost crossed the finish line of the camp, which was not allowed. "Their practice is still ongoing." I wrapped my arms around my chest. "What a tough and rigorous training session." My eyes automatically shifted to Ranvijay.

"Fuck! He is here. If he sees me, he'll definitely start scolding me," I turned, hiding from him. He was the one training them. I turned my neck slightly to see him. He was smoking. "Listen, Ranvijay sir," I said loudly, and he turned his gaze to me.

"Can I make a call here, as there is no network inside the camp?" I asked, but he turned his face without uttering a single word. "Asshole for no reason," I cursed him under my breath. I dialed Riya's number and started chattering with her.

I had no idea what was going to happen in the next moment. I was so into the conversation. I hung up the call and turned around, only to be hit by an unexpected force.

"Ahh!" I fell to the ground. All I could see was darkness in front of my eyes and pain in my body.

"Is this the end of my life? I don't know."
